To create is to unveil, to expose the contradictions within us, to define what it means to feel, remember, and exist. It is a commitment to truth, even without knowing what truth is, and accepting the void that comes with the unknown.
I view my art as both deeply personal and profoundly universal, a space where my body, objects, gestures, and fragmented moments serve as a path for exploring identity and emotion. It’s not about finding resolution, but about creating spaces where contradictions coexist, where language fails, and the weight of memory and experience takes form. Through an ongoing dialogue between abstraction and figuration, my paintings become the tension between reality and perception.
I often depict the human body, not as a static form but as a vessel for layered experiences. The fragmented figures, objects like candles or handcuffs, and gestural movements evoke how the body becomes imprinted with both personal and collective memory.
The body is the primary site of experience. For me, it’s not only lived but remembered, with each moment carrying the weight of past relationships, fears, and desires. The paintings, with their blurred boundaries and unresolved forms, emphasize the fluidity of memory and its capacity to both reveal and conceal.
I explore the frantic dynamics of human connection, investigating how intimacy often carries elements of control, submission, and vulnerability. Lounging around nude, burning a candle, the act of undoing a belt all are loaded with both sensual and oppressive meanings, capturing the tension between pleasure and harm. This tension remains unresolved, held in a state of ambiguity, reflecting the complexities of connecting.
At the core of it all is my belief that art is a form of transformation. By confronting and reinterpreting moments of trauma, love, and loss, I reclaim them. My approach to layering and abstraction mirrors theories of the unconscious. Just as layers of paint conceal and reveal forms, so too do layers of memory shape our understanding of the self. My art doesn’t seek to resolve these layers but to allow them to coexist, creating a space where contradictions can become fertile.
